I don't think there's any real reason why you couldn't put some in your compost pile, as long as it isn't tons of them. But don't expect them to break down real fast. You may end up sifting them back out of your compost and throwing them back, because the other stuff you put in will be well broken down and the shells will still be just sitting there.

I think they will fall through my 1/2" screen. I wonder how long they take to break down. Maybe they can go in my stick pile.

If the pistachio shells will pass through a screen. In my garden, they're ready for the garden.

Sometimes nut shells do go into the compost, sometimes not. Nobody living in the garden has complained yet.

I don't think there's enough salt to worry about unless you use a ton of shells.
People worry too much about salt, just like when using seaweed.
