Anyone into PC gaming?

I have been an avid PC gamer for years. I'm 40 years old and still play when I'm not working or gardening. I'm currently into Minecraft. Anyone else into PC gaming?

My DH. *sigh* WoW, MMRPG, the works. Our house may be falling down and need painting (I can't do it--VOC exposure and two partially torn rotator cuffs), etc., but as long as he's involved in his fantasy world, he doesn't give a rat's rear end...

Oh, sorry! You were looking for people *here* who play the games? I think many THG members will be moping around during the rainy months / snowy months / cold months coming up and doing stuff like re-arranging their seed-starting shelves, or planning just o-n-e more shelf in the itty-bitty greenhouse, leafing through seed catalogues--real paper ones, not virtual ones, planning how to cram one more SFG into the back yard, etc.

I love my PC gaming but I make sure everything is done on my "honey do" list first. My wife doesn't mind because it's always at night when I play. I don't hunt or get much into sports, so my hobbies keep me here at home and is a lot less expensive than other ones.
Sorry to hear of your husband's passing, Cynthia. I myself, spent 4 years in the Warcrack haze. It is incredibly addictive. My wife was playing also. That helps a lot when you and your spouse can share a hobby, though.

Here are some favorites:

Deus Ex
FEAR
Half Life
Dragon Age Origins
Neverwinter Nights
Knights of the Old Republic

I don't play often, too busy. And when I do it takes almost a year to finish a game because I play so infrequently.

I used to be a PC gamer myself. I've played a lot of the older FPS games and some RTS games.

FPS:
Half Life, Half Life 2, Counterstrike, Counterstrike Source, Team Fortress and TF2.
Call of Duty 1-3
Battlefield 1942, BF2, Battlefield 2142 and I've been considering picking of BF3
FEAR
Crysis
Doom, Doom 3
Wolfenstein 3D
Quake III
Unreal Tournament
Brothers in Arms
Portal
Grid II

I was pretty good at the height of my gaming career with Counterstrike Source, Call of Duty and in Battlefield 2142, which are the three I probably played the most and the three that were the most popular when I was deeply ingrained into it. The onslaught of cheating and hacks in Counterstrike made it impossible to stay good. Even Punkbuster didn't help in the end.

This is just a few I've played. :)

I also got into a few MMORPGs, like Travian ( I played 2 servers, each game takes 9 months to a year from server reset to end of game).

I played a F1 racing game as well on Grand Prix Racing Online (GPRO) for several seasons and our team reached the top 25 in the world of players from all over the planet. I used to watch the races from my mobile phone!

I haven't touched a game aside from silly flash games that you can play for 10 minutes at a time for nearly 3 years now.

I am still a member of a clan from the FPS days, but I rarely communicate with my old 'online friends', but used to hook up in servers for matches and scrims with other clans - mostly in the Battlefield game series and the Call of Duty series. My old clan was Strategic Assault Specialists (SAS), but the head of the clan took our server donations and misappropriated the funds. We split a while back and I stuck with the people who left and created Inebriated Brethren (IB). Loved the friday night frag sessions - drinks and TeamSpeak with the clan and some serious carnage. Yes, I think I've played most of them at one point or another.

Ah, the good old days... I'm 40 now as well. I will probably make a comeback when my son is old enough to start paying these games. He's just over 2 weeks old, so we've got a few more years yet. ;)

Hello... my name is Cherish, and I am currently addicted to WoW...

Yup, hubby, step son and I all play WoW quite regularly. My stepson plays quite a few others that I cant seem to keep up with, but WoW is my speed. :) Got quite a few characters on all different servers.
You are not alone in this!

Forgot to mention Crysis and the two Far Cry games. I like games that allow you to solve a situation in different ways. Half Life had amazing set pieces. It got pretty scary in places, immersing you in sci-fi environment filled with creepy creatures.

Far Cry, similar to Crysis, allowed you to explore the environment and solve the obstacles in a myriad ways. The hang glider was fun.

FEAR had fun gameplay. Once you figure out what all the weapons do then it's just a lot of fun plowing through to the end. The story is minimal but just enough to give the mayhem some meaning. The ghost elements can be spooky.

Deus Ex gives you a strong sense of unscripted play but it does have a trajectory it's sending you to. The different areas are a hoot.

To me, Doom 3 was the scariest followed closely by FEAR. When I played Doom, I had a 5.1 system setup around my computer chair, and played in the dark. There are so many scenes that look like they come straight out of a horror movie... One I remember distinctively was when I was crawling through a pipe and something raced across an intersecting pipe, but it could be barely seen. The sounds are also incredible when played in surround. Little breaths behind you or snarls...

Isn't FEAR the one when you can slow time?

I'm not sure which one it was (Crysis, maybe?) but you have a weapon that you pick up mods and upgrades for along the way. It gets really complicated settup up your gun for certain scenes in the game.. Um, do I need to open sight AR15 with exploding rounds and muzzle break or do I need the ACOG sight with piercing rounds?

I think for multiplayer, Battlefield 2142 was by far my favorite. It was the first game to integrate multiple players into single vehicles, like putting two online players in the same tank, one drives and handles the turret, one rides and uses the MG on the turret... It was also the only game I've ever played where you can place 5 det-packs on a dune buggy, drive it straight at a tank or group of people, jump out at the last second and detonate the dune buggy and packs as it rams into something. Also known as a Jihad!

I've tried just about all of the RPG games which are my favorite. The first game I really got addicted to was Morrowind: Elder Scrolls III. I played that game for over a year and still think about how it is probably the greatest RPG of all time. Oblivion was alright, but not the content of Elder Scrolls III. I got really addicted to WoW for about 4 years and even with all the updates and expansions, it just got to feel like the same old thing after so long. I play a few FPS but my hand and eye coordination is never fast enough for online playing. I mostly just play the single player ones. I have recently started playing Minecraft and really enjoy it. At first, I though the game was kinda cheesy with just a bunch of blocks. But, I got a demo disc in my PC gamer to try it and wow! It's totally awesome! You can build virtually anything in the game. There are also tons of mods you can download for free. If you haven't tried Minecraft you should at least give it a go! :)

DH is alive, thank you, Boomslang. *whew* It's just that I might as well not have one around most of the time. His commute takes him away 12 hours 9 days out of 10 and then, instead of even sitting at the dinner table for 20 or so minutes, he just goes to his computer and WoW again.

Guilds authenticator vault campaign oh yes DunDraCon KublaKon maybe some others around here these days in person but still fantasy they're lucky to learn each others' names.

"Wargame widow" kind of like "golf widow" in the greater world, I think.

PC is my life! I'm aiming to make gardening my main interest just like when my family had a house but its kind of impossible with my current living conditions (I hate apartments...)

Anyway, I like strategy games, they are extremly fun when they are played online, the games I still have interest in are:

Empire: Total War
Age of Empires 3
Napoleon: Total War
GTA: SA
Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword
Digimon World 2 ( )

LoL(league of legends, a tower defense MOBA game for pc) and Gears of War 3 for xbox 360 are basically it right now...memoir 44 is now available for free DL on steam so I might start playing that if I can get used to the interface(although I do think I prefer the actual board game a little bit more, minus the in depth board setup depending on the scenario  )
I'm trying to get unaddicted and get back into shape and work on building the relationship with my wife(newlywed, going on 10 months :D), she's addicted to farmville though :(

I don't game except for on line Battleship and Risk. We do have a PS3 for wireless streaming on Netflix and it doubles as our DVD blu ray player. It uses the gaming controls to run movies and Netflix. We hit the wrong button or set it down wrong and it goes off to parts unknown. It may jump chapters, fast forward or reverse itself. I hate the thing but it was the most practical thing we could buy to use for both streaming and Blu Ray.

I could never learn what all those buttons do to play a game.
