propagatetomatoes and peppers help

I am trying to propagate some tomatoes and peppers but not having any luck. I have tried two different methods the first time I tuck the cuttings and placed them in plastic cup with about 2 inches of water. Method 2 I also placed the cuttings in a cup of potting soil and placed the stems about 1 or 2 inches in the soil. Both times the plants did not root. Each cutting was 4-6 inches long and I always took off all the leaves but 3-5 of them. I have also tried using rooting hormone when planting them in soil. Does anyone have any suggestions that would help me propagate them?

I would strip the stem down to two leaves. Use a clear plastic bag as a humidity dome. Apply bottom heat. The top of you refrigerator my work for this.

I agree with Eric that maintaining the humidity around the leaves is critical for cuttings. Another way to do it is cut the bottom off a soda bottle and use it as a humidity dome.

But personally I think tomatoes and peppers are easier to start from seed than cuttings.

Try layering. It is a method where the stem is wounded, then covered with soil.

Thanks for the site. Their is quite a bit of info. I will give it a try
