ficus microcarpa virus of wich type?

Hi,

I'm new here, but not entirely new to bonsai.

I recieved a ficus retusa/microcarpa from a nursery recently on wich some of the leaves seemed to have a viral infection and others 'lumps' wich apear to be some kind of wasp gall wich I assume will have no reason to recur once they are removed.

the viraly infected leaves are similar in look to variagation wich I am aware is also a result of viral infection.

My question is, -considering the plant was not meant to be a variagated variety, does anyone know wether this is harmless to other plants and wether it is likely to spread to my othe figs?

I know that viruses are notoriously duificult to identify exactly due to thier numerosity, but I'm wondering if there are any other experienced fig growers who have seen this before and could answer my question.

I will hapily add pictures If someone could tell me how, I cant seem to work it out.

This thread explains the posting image thing in detail...

Pretty much you upload it to any server on the web (photobucket, your own website, other image hosting platform) and then add the direct link to the file (typically starts with https:// and ends with .jpg) into your post, highlight that and hit the "img" button. Voila...

I am a little worried it could be fig mosaic virus, but cant seem to find any actual pictures of this on ficus retusa, or how common it is in the uk(mind you I am not sure where it origionated).

To me, it looks like it's just chemical burn.

sorry, yea the the one I mean is the one in the background, as I think the yellow lumps are gall wasps

btw sorry my posts are late and/or sporadic, its just I have alot to do.



--my problem is that although it is a very nice tree, I cant be sure that the markins are just genetic.

If they were they would just be an interesting 'quirk' of the tree, but I couldn't risk passing it on to another tree that that has all green leaves and risk destroying its character.

hard water comes to mine. If there're multiple leaves like that maybe the retusa was crossed with the veriegated type by the ficus wasp. Maybe it was grown from a seed . .

I sometimes wonder wether I shouldnt study pests and diseases more than actual bonsai as I seem to get more subjects lol.
