Does Anyone Ever Get Cukes with "Tails" on Them?

Hi all. I've harvested a small batch of cukes and some of them look like they did not fully "fill out." That is, some of them grew into almost a round ball, with a short little stubby "tail" sticking out.

I was looking around in the patch today and I saw another one that looks like this. Does anyone else ever get these and do you know what causes this?

My guess is it may have been all of the high heat we've had. Oh, and the variety I grew was Burpee Straight 8.

I get those when the plant itself isn't looking healthy. The plant soon dies a week or two later.

Is your plant healthy looking?

Well, I can't really tell since my method is a bunch of plants in a row between two fences....so it's just one big jungle . However, everything looks healthy.

Perhaps it was the heat coupled with the fact that I forgot to water it a few times .
