Drooping Cherry Tree Lacking Leaves

Hi, I inherited a young drooping cherry tree when we moved to the north coast over four years ago. Every year the cherry tree has produced some blooms (not a lot) and a full set of leaves. This year for whatever reason many of the leaves are missing on the branches of the tree, I'd say at least a third are gone or more. The tree itself looks the same, the trunk looks good and there is more branch growth since last year. Nothing different this year other than more rain than usual during winter and spring, which is saying something here since it rains quite a bit.

Anyone out there who has a drooping cherry tree or has any ideas about the lack of leaves on my tree? Thanks!

The photos you showed look good to me however that aside it could be the soil. You might want to dig around the drip line in the fall and re-fill with manure or compost and some fertilizer down to a depth of 6" and see what happens next spring. If you live along the coast the soil could be too sandy and not hold any nutrients. A weeping cherry will not have an abundace of leaves versus say a oak.

The photos show the tree with a full set of leaves, it's looking a little sparse now on the branches.

Thanks for the info, I will definitely give this method a try and see if the tree leafs out better next spring.
