Trellis for cantaloupe?

I've been debating on whether or not to trellis my cantaloupe, and finally broke down yesterday. The only reason why I decided was because they were growing toward the beans, and visa versa.

So, I guess my question is does anyone else here do this? I've been told that I'm NOT supposed to trellis cantaloupe, but from everything I read it seems like it won't be a problem.

A cache of some onion bags to nestle cantalopes in couldn't hurt. They'll drop when ripe.

I've done trellised 'lope whan space was an issue.

I once did cantaloupes on a trellis and used my wife's discarded hose as a sling to cradle the fruit as it matured. That worked out quite well. However, I've been told many women no longer wear hose and doing so is considered old school.
