Keeping seedlings watered when I travel
I've started my veggies. They all have their second set of leaves. I have to go out of town for a week, is there any type of wicking system I can set up so I don't loose them?
Personally, I would soak the pots well the night before and keep them at a low temp (70 F) and in still air. If they are in 3" pots or larger they should be fine for a week.
For a school fundraiser several years ago I helped students raise several hundred tomato and pepper seedlings in a greenhouse and after germination we had them sitting in trays of shallow water the whole time because with the temp fluctuation and high airflow in the greenhouse if they went dry in the smallish 6-pack cells they would have been dead before anyone got to them.
