Today was a lovely day in the 60s. WOW! First one. I decided to open the pit and see how things. fared. Fortunately the gophers didn't find it.

The cabbage did come through. We had one for dinner. It was good.
I only had one turnip and it looks great. I think I am going to plant if for seed. Had potatoes for dinner too. They were the best! The carrots look great, and I am sure they will taste good too. Beets too, I will be curious to taste them to see if they are still sweet. I will plant a couple beets for seed too.
The ground was very wet. I used the shovel until I got down to the veggies, then put on rubber gloves and got the veggies out by hand.. Any way, we are set for veggies for a few days. Some of the potatoes I will plant this year.

Jal, I, too, remember the thread where you were burying everything. Like Apps, I was wondering how the cabbage would fare. Looks like it worked great!
Have you ever tried this with onions?
I was thinking about your pit a few days ago and had an idea of my own. Why not take a clean garbage can, load it up, put a trash bag over it, then bury it sideways under ground?
Now, when spring comes (or mid-winder if you get really hungry), dig it up, pull of the trash back, and you have your can-o-veggies....as clean as the day you put it in the ground.
Then you can just take it in the house and sift through all the treasure. What do you think?
