I am concerned that I am not doing the right things with my ceders, I was told to treat them similat to a pine, tweeze out all the needles on the bottom of the branches, pinch out the tips as required, and if necessary tweeze needles off the trunk, Is this right,
and if it is right, and I'm doing what I should? what about the buds growing on the tops of the branches? as opposed to those growing on the sides? from what I understandm I should remove them as well? but I haven't yet, (I always hessitate before hacking away if uncertain what I'm doing since in some cases you can't put it/grow it back! )

On the branches this is so that your branches grow to be broad and shady as opposed to stacked ontop of one another.and if it is right, and I'm doing what I should? what about the buds growing on the tops of the branches? as opposed to those growing on the sides? from what I understandm I should remove them as well? but I haven't yet, (I always hessitate before hacking away if uncertain what I'm doing since in some cases you can't put it/grow it back! )
[Aim for a broad horizontal aspect, Think of your hand held flat palm down as opposed to how it looks when turned 90 degrees so your thumb is pointing up. One of those resembles a tree branch more than the other , This is why you remove the buds growing up and down.]
This second part is just a basic design/pruning priciple.
