Question about vines

Im not much of a gardener, but I want to start to learn a little more. I have a block wall in my backyard that looks very bland. I would like to grow some vines on it but I have some specifics in mind. I would like the vines to be low maintenance, and green all year long. We live in Southern California so its pretty dry and sunny most of the year. Also, our block wall is pretty smooth as its like a cinder block. What type of vines would work best for this?

Welcome to the forum! :)

What direction does the wall face ... the side the vine will grow on? Will the vine be in full sun all day? Morning sun and afternoon shade? Morning shade and afternoon sun? Will it get regular water?

Does the vine have to cling directly to the wall itself, or could you install some type of trellising for it? (The kind of trellising would depend on the vine you choose. Some vines cling by little suction cup like growths, while others produce tendrils that wrap around a support.)
