help with beans?

I randomly put some beans into some dirt and watered it and they've sprouted lol everyone told me they wouldn't! haha!!

they are in the same pot with an oak tree now.

It's a pinto bean and a black eyed pea. (not sure what those are /actually/ called)

What should I do? Should I leave them in this pot for xx amount of time?

The black eyed pea is about 1 inch tall and the pea part is completely out of the dirt with a leaf coming out.

The pinto bean is just a 2cm green thing peeking out of the dirt.

I've never grown beans before.

They're in the house. I live in zone 7 and it's cold outside.

How big is the pot and how tall is the oak tree? If you can keep them in the window so they get a lot direct sunlight and give them something to trellis up, they should do fine.

Now that you've got the hang of it....wait a few months till it warms up and put in a row in the garden

Hmm. I'm not sure on the size but I'm going to estimate it's about 1 gallon. The oak tree is still only a baby and is about 8 inches tall.

Let them grow a while for some winter green. You will end up just pulling them and tossing what is left in the compost heap.

Beans are easy to grow. Best planted outdoors when the danger of frost is past.

...Those fenceposts are 6' tall.

The pea and bean will overwhelm your baby oak tree. You're going to have to transplant them into a container of their own -- probably a 5 gal bucket with holes drilled in them -- and set it in front of a south-facing sliding glass window or supplement with full spectrum daylight bulb if you want your baby "giant pea/bean stalk" to grow up.

You could hang some strings from a sturdy hook secured in the ceiling for support.

Black-eyed peas are also called "southern" peas for a reason -- they like it hot. You're probably better off growing them in warmest room you have. Peas and beans can self-pollinate without help, so with all the right growing conditions, you'll probably get actual bean pods you could harvest to add to your salads or use as garnis. Watch out for red spider mites which can infest indoor plants in wintertime. Daily thorough misting or open containers of water to raise the humidity can help to deter them.

Luckily the entire east wall of the living room is a giant window and there's no trees close to the house, so all of my plants get direct sunlight from dawn til noonish.

I think thats why they grew so fast. I planted them just 3 days ago, lol!

also the fireplace probably keeps them warm.

Anyway, how big are they going to get and how fast?? I'm googling some stuff on them but not finding pictures just text. I need visuals!!

those look like gourds to me.. o.o

OK, the gourds are mostly on the ground. The two dark green triangular masses hugging the fenceposts in the first photo are the Peas.

You see a close up in the 2nd photo. The peas grew to the top of the fence, then doubled over and some came all the way back down to the ground before making their way up again. Total individual length of over 15 feet at a guess.
