Does anyone know what to do about grasshoppers?

-helpsos- We have an invasion of grasshoppers. They are eating all my dalias amongst other plants. Is there anything that will keep them off my plants? I'd welcome any advice, thanks!

Apparently much of the west is being kind of over-run with grasshoppers this year, with it being so hot and dry. Check out this thread

Did you read the article I linked in the thread cynthia gave?

Here it is again:

https://www.ghorganics.com/page12.html

Seems like it has a lot of suggestions including predators for them, repellant plants for them, parasites for them, garlic oil spray, pepper spray (or try combination garlic-pepper spray), diatomaceous earth, trap crops, etc....

If you really don't want the grasshoppers, start trying things!

Let us know what works best for you...

Sorry, it works for me; I just checked from the link.

You could try going to their home page

https://www.ghorganics.com/

then go to Insects then go to Grasshoppers.

Nope no luck. For some reason it's causing my interet explorer to crash. Thanks anyway I'll try searching the web.

Firefox and Safari can read it, if these are of any use to you.

My Internet Explorer pulled it right up, must be something else going on with your computer.

I hate to say it: I caught a virus once, and links didn't work right for me, and I crashed constantly, until, it just wouldn't come back up.

Today I seen what looked like tiny leaves that have fallen on my chili seedlings. I got a closer look and they were baby grass hoppers  I never seen them that tiny before. I thought they were only on my seedlings then I walked towards my pumpkins and I seen all these tiny grass hoppers hopping everywhere. Can they do damage to my garden?

Like a plague of locusts! They can pretty well destroy it, if they grow up. Read the thread and the article linked above.

Yes, they can destroy it! Get them NOW, while they're small.

Planting cilantro around the garden sounds like a good idea to help get rid of the grasshoppers. That link had a lot of good info.

The cilantro is a good idea for NEXT year! If you don't want this year's garden ruined, you might want to consider something a bit more proactive.

If they're all clustered up like that, you might be able to just catch them with a net, throw them in a bucket of soapy water or a jar with alcohol.

I have a hothouse and the grasshoppers are getting fat.
I have used tons of 7 dust and malathion. Yesterday
a friend told me to sprinkle baby powder on everything
and they would not partake of my tasty fresh leaves. I
tried that today. Should know if it works by morning.
If it doesn't work, I still have the nicest smelling hothouse
around.
