Weird leaf

Weird leaf. My neighbor brought this by. Have you seen this type of leaf and do you have a name for it?

Where did your neighbor get the leaf? It would be helpful to know if it's from a tree, shrub, or something else. Also, do all the leaves on the plant look like that?

Off the top of my head, I would guess some kind of oak hybrid. Are there oak trees on the property? :?

I'll claim my usual caveat, though, that I am not a tree person.

Yep, I asked the same questions. I asked for the whole plant, a seed or flower. She said it was an herb, not a tree.

Thanks.

I think Applestar nailed it. Just went out to mine in the garden and it's a dead ringer.

 Looks like this photo won't be needed after all, but since I took it...

The strain I have has a gorgeous powdery blue color to it that just pops no matter what it's planted with and looks especially nice in twilight. Young leaves taste great in salads, and older leaves are wonderful in stir-fries and sautées. I like them in tomato based pasta sauce. The Cabbage Whites/Imported Cabbage worms don't seem to like it much, but unfortunately Cross Striped Cabbage Worms have no such notion.

My first thought was something lettuce-y, similar to oak leaf lettuce?

In the picture is a red variety, but there are green varieties too:
