Hi Tom I'm in the land down under home is the small city of Albany Western Australia.. Albany was once called Fredrickstown.

By the way we say Al-bany like in the name Al
everyone else would say All-bany as in All the people

!! HUMMINGBIRD MOTH !!

The first photo is the best, but -- sorry -- I couldn't bear to leave out the other ones :wink: Also, the antennae are not evident in the first photo, making it look even more like a hummingbird, but you can see them clearly in some of the later photos. 8)

...actually, in the first photo, the moth is pointing both antennae held together and forward, making them look remarkably like hummingbird beaks :o What a great example of mimicry :D

I know it's been a while, but I just wanted to point out that the ?? on the clethra sure looks like a carpenter bee (very like a bumblebee but with a glabrous (unhairy), shiny abdomen).
