What is the best way to harvest my Romaine... It looks ready.. Should I pinch the leaves so that it continues to grow? Or cut them out?

It depends where you are located. If you are in zone 5 or higher, the lettuce season is about over and you might as well cut the whole head before it bolts. However, if you live in a colder climate, you may be able to just pick the leaves and then allow more to grow.

I am in Michigan.. I will pinch them off and hope for more growth

I pick the whole plant. I always have enough that I will never get it all used anyway before it bolts.

I didn't get romaine this year. Bugs got to it, no matter how much I watched over the garden.

No worries, this year is not over. Grow lettuce this fall and kale, chard, broccoli, collards ....etc...............

Use floating row cover like Reemay if you need extra protection.

man o man. The romaine has a tang to it. Also, it has a milk substance in the core! did I pick to early

When you say tang, do you mean bitter. Sounds like the heat has gotten to it. I think you may have waited to long. You will see even more milk substance when it bolts.
