Help ID shrub with bristle-like flowers: Calliandra califo

I knew what that one was likely to be before I even looked at the picture, from your description and location: bottle brush tree.

Hi and thanks. I don't think this is a bottle brush plant. Did you take a look at my photo anyway? Look at the foliage, totally different and also the flower is more rounded than oblong. Unless there are different varieties of bottle brush plants? The one I saw was a shrub, not a tree.

I think it's Calliandra haematocephala, commonly called Red Powder Puff.
