leaves..............to be or not to be? that is the question

I enjoy reading many of the posts on this site and have recieved advice from people on here before so here goes again,

I would like to keep the leaf size of my zelkova small, but in order to let branches thicken I let it go a little wild lately.
Am I ok to now simply remove all leaves then allow new ones to grow and remove them in turn as they get too big or will this shock the tree?
Any comments please?

Thanks in anticipation

Wiliam

I wouldn't remove all the leaves. You can pinch off some of them.

Hi William ,
As Opabinia says you can remove some of them but not all, not like acers where you can remove all the leaves in early summer and they will come back smaller.
