I see many members here like to post pix. Any photos you like to share :?: Your personal photos please. They don't have to be garden related

Here are a couple to start it off. (hopefully)

Interesting subject since I am almost as passionate about photography as I am about gardening.

Since I only have about five thousand of my own photos that I thought were worth keeping, I will only upload a few in separate groups. I'll start with some that I didn't take but they are unique and you probably will never see them anywhere else.

Our daughter was a member of a first responder group assigned to the airport in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. She arrived two days after katrina and worked in the airport for almost three weeks helping in the evacuation. Near the end of the evacuation, many of the people who served in the evacuation traded CD's of photos they took. I have about five hundred photos. Some I can't share, some I can; but they are sad. I think you will be able to see what was going on without explanation. I can only say contrary to media reports, our government and people did amazing things in the Katrina rescue.

The next groups will only be pleasant subjects. I think they were all taken by me.

Here are a few photos that I simply enjoy.

The first is my grand daughter at a Fourth Of July parade.

The second photo is our son and grandson doing what sons and grandson's do.

The following photos are simply some things I have seen in Arkansas and Colorado and other places. If I think one needs explanation, I will.

Turner Falls Oklahoma.

I find it interesting and pleasing that as our lives seem to be changing at a faster pace every day, some things never change.

I will stop with these. We were in Monterrey, California looking for a place to eat lunch before going to the aquarium. I don't know why this scene struck me enough to photograph it, but it did; and then we went inside for lunch.

Are any of these pics being posted directly to the forum as opposed to being hosted somewhere? I'd love to post pics but hate the rigamarole involved with hosting elsewhere.

I have mine at a host site, for one this saves band width at this site and helps with the cost of running the site, I may be wrong but I think this is the only way you can post here.

Other than your avatar, I don't think you can post direct to the forum. Photo bucket and flicker are as easy to use as posting direct to the forum would be. They also give you the ability to edit, resize, and do many other things to your photos. You can also create photo albums to group your photos. It keeps me from having to look around a lot for a photo I may want to post somewhere.

Tom is right... no way to post pictures here directly, only through a host site. Mine are on photobucket and I have never had any trouble with it, no spam from them or anything.

I figure it's my backup... if my computer ever crashes, at least all my pictures will still be there at photobucket.

DDog I love it when things go boom! I used to belong to a fire works club and the guild. I shot shows and made the same shells you see at pro shows all fine with the law but now the world has changed.

I also use Photobucket. It's great for backup and editing. My neighbor, Sergeant - cannon crew, lost over 5000 photos when his Mac crashed.

Yes, and sometimes when you lose a digital photo; it's gone for good.

Many years ago, our youngest son wanted to surprise me by upgrading my PC from an older version of windows to Win 95. He didn't back up anything but did reformat my hard drive before installing the new version. I lost about 5000 photos taken over 20 years. The ones I miss the most are the pictures of our kids growing up.

Now I have another 5000 which are backed up on two separate external hard drives and one USB flash drive. The photos of our grand kids growing up are safe. I use photobucket a lot, but only for photos I want to post on web pages.

Damn, Sorry to hear that Ted. I'm the youngest of 4 boys. Lots of pictures of the oldest, fewer of the second and so on. When you get the 4th  This before digital days.

Please good people post more photos of your areas, we have my wife's 91 year old dad living with us and that makes it hard to get away on trips, so if I can look at photos from where you live it will be a virtual vacation trip.
Plus it is interesting to see what people are in to doing.

Okay Tom,

No way I can load all my photobucket photos on here. You are welcome to take a trip through my photobucket albums here.

https://s291.photobucket.com/albums/ll308/tedln/

I think you can access all of the albums listed on the left hand side of the webpage. Just click back to the album list to look at a different album.

I am on a break from working in the yard so I checked out your photos, cool. I like Colorado a lot; they have good skiing there as well as beautiful scenery.
It looks like your house used to be a barn, cool.

I only have a hand full of my many photos on the net at flickr and Photbucket but I love taking pictures so I cannot help my self but post them. I love looking at photos also, and art; our home is full of art. I will post some my wife did.

The trick to posting photos on a forum is to open 2 browsers at a time and go to Photobucket with one and to the topic in the forum you wish to post in. In photo bucket copy the photos direct link then in the forum reply and select IMG. And paste and submit. Then edit and keep doing it. I know you know how to past here tedln; I wrote this so other people may give it a try.

I just took the photos of a place down the street from me. I live in a town called Eagle Creek, is that not a cool name? I once lived in a town called Troutdale, there is a town not far called Boring and one called Zig Zag named for the river that goes through it not the rolling papers.

That is one big wave, did you work on a ship?

I love the water but I do not think I would like waves that big. It does not take to big of a wave to be bigger than my boat. My sports car is a boat, that on in the photo is mine. It is a barefoot boat and will do 70mph.

tomf, my destroyer was in storms with 80 foot seas a few times. Green water breaking over a bridge deck is an unforgettable experience. 15 footers on our boat was an equal rush.

I have salt water in my veins but now live inland and have to settle for organic tomatoes in my mouth. That works too.

Wow 80' wall of water would be a sight, I think even on a big ship it would be scary. I would never go in the ocean in my little boat you can see it is low to the water. Even on the river the waves can get a bit scary and one has to know how to handle a boat, it is the waves that come between waves in a different direction that make it hard not to take on water. I have had waves come over the bow and get me wet. I used to live north of Boston and went to the ocean all the time, now it is 2 or more hours away. The west coast ocean is ruff and the waves are way bigger than the east coast.

tomf, are those frogs attacking your family:)

The waves between waves are chop. Deep offshore the waves are more regular, evenly spaced and predictable. Storms get crazy because the waves become basically large chop.

The biggest waves I ever saw were rollers. The ship ,along with the rest of the fleet - and the world for that matter- disappear in the trough and reappear on the crest.

After watching the very experienced officer of the deck during my first helm watch in bad weather, I stopped worrying. The only thing the guy seemed worried about was spilling his coffee.

I used to barefoot and really love fast boats. Geezerfication has helped me become an 8 mile per hour kind of guy.

We have a number of fine gardens in Oregon, in the city of Portland the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Chinese Garden and the Rhododendron Garden are a must see.

The Photos are from the Oregon Gardens in Silverton if you go it takes most of a day to see the entire garden.
