When the weather permits, gardening is my favorite activity. Since it is hard to garden year round and all day every day, I enjoy reading, messing with computers, traveling, and a few other things. The photo below shows the activity my wife and I enjoy doing together the most. We love to ride our ATV in the mountains of Arkansas and Colorado. What do you do besides garden?

I build things...
This past winter's project... Just about finished... I have about 200 hours into it right now... Needs a final sanding, staining and oil...
1760's - 1770's era flintlock... Built with hand tools... Well I did cheat, I used the drill press to put pin holes in the stock so that they'd be square, straight and to size...
Carving is all done by hand.

You also have a beautiful plane. The wife and I enjoy going to consignment auctions. We have a lot in our area. Seems there are usually a lot of antique machine tools and wood working tools like your plane at auction. I never buy them because I am more into modern tools but I do admire them.

Gary, will my 6'3" body sleep comfortably in that neat little teardrop?
On your jet engines, are the reed valves controlling the pulse rate or just the throttled fuel intake? Are they operating at atmospheric air pressure or are you somehow inducing a higher air intake pressure? It doesn't look like you have room on the intake end for a turbo fan.
On your steam engine, are you using a slide valve to switch the high pressure / low pressure ends?. I am assuming it is double acting rather than single acting. I would have to look at the video again to see if it has a flywheel large enough to be single acting. The top of the engine was cut off in the video so I couldn't see if it had a flyball governor.

Such talented folks, okay so are your gardens high tech?
In my intro I listed most things that I like to do.
But, I also like to explore, and take my camera with me to catch the moment, whether it is a view or an animal... but, I am not the photographer that many on here are. I even like to see roads, and go... Where does that go? What is there? And just test new routes, new roads etc. with my camera along.
When I am online, I am often exploring areas, plants, animals... ya know?
And I do play video games too. Online as well as with game systems.
I like 4 wheelers, but I like riding horses even better. You can just really explore so well from horse back.
My husband absolutely hates my building projects, since it take me 10 bent nails to do what he can do with one! But, my projects stay there forever, much to his chagrin! ha ha. Ugly but functional...

I am housecleaning
and getting some soil soaked up to start more seedlings, as well as transplant. Did I mention that I would rather be outside?
It is chilly, cloudy, nasty, not a pretty day. Your photos are kind of after the rain, not this ugly cloud cover we have here today.
Your photos are places that I would love to explore and pack a lunch for the day! I can smell and hear those streams! Not really, but you know what I mean... my kind of place!
Why do we have 20 acres and only use about 3? So we can always explore the other acreage. You know, days that you just don't have time to go somewhere and yet, just have to get outside...
Outside in the yard or garden is working... outside in the woods, is enjoying, unless you are working there... ha ha. But, we don't work alot in the woods, maybe cut a fire break, or take out a damaged tree that is going to break other trees. Mostly we leave the woods to the animals.

Well I thought since poor ozark lady is stuck inside Id snap a few more pictures of sunny California for ya! And I am green with envy, you have actual woods? I would spend all my time out there, on a big blanket or in a hammock reading. I LOVE to read, I'll read a novel in an afternoon and I won't put the sucker down till it's over. I like books better than movies. One of my all time favorite pass times (besides the garden lol)

My garden isn't high tech, but I do have it set up to take care of itself while my wife and I travel. My watering is all by buried hose and soaker hose hooked to a timer. The only thing that needs to be done after it is planted is harvest. While we are gone, neighbors and friends know where I keep the WalMart bags in a bucket in the garden. They take care of the harvesting.
I also thought I might give you a few photos close to your home in NW Arkansas. All of the following photos were taken in or around Wolf Pen Gap near Mena, Arkansas. We (along with six other couples) will be in the area in mid April for another week. You are fortunate to live in such a beautiful place.

Awesome photos. Mena is about 2 hours away, south of us, down by Fort Smith isn't it? That forest and mountain range there is awesome!
But, it is pretty here too, when green!
Of course, green is my favorite color on woods.
Mrs.Greenthumb, go look on to cut or not to cut, and you will see the woods that I see daily.
Looking out my window right this moment, there is simply more trees in my view than I could possibly count.
And hills in the distance, when there are no leaves, like now, I can even see the lake off in the distance.
It is pretty, and I never get tired of it. But a stream would be wonderful!
But, I have seen some really pretty pictures of where many of you live too.
We also need to get our bike builder to show us some of the scenery that he sees while out riding!
Whether it is a gorgeous flower, garden, tree, view or whatever... show us what you like!

Here are a few photos from one of our trips to Colorado. I love Colorado. You can leave the 100 plus degrees of Texas in the morning and be in the Mountains of Colorado by evening. You wake up the next morning, and the high temps will only be in the mid to low 70's. We try to stay long enough for the Texas heat wave to pass before heading home.

Nice work Charlie! The table looks like Birds Eye Maple with some variety of Mahogany inlay. What is the purple wood?
I am amazed by the level of craftsmanship exhibited by some members of this "gardening" forum. I truly admire and envy the skills and imagination shown. Craftsmanship requires patience. I therefore will never be a craftsman or an artist. I will continue with my mundane activities and be happy with my gardening skills.

The wood in the table is called purple heart . I's a South American wood. The floors in the aft cabin on the boat are cherry with walnut inlay.
The photo of us under the boat and the boat in the sling is the last leg of a move from Charleston to a lake near Columbia. We can go deep lake fishing if you want but this girl's deep sea days are done while I own her.
Ozark lady, if you have the life jacket, a big shovel and can coax him aboard, we'll give it a try.

It's a Suzuki 1500 with a motor trike conversion kit so it actually has 3 wheels across the back and one in front. Very stable for us little old ladies that still like to ride!

Is the Suzuki 1500 chain driven or shaft driven. If it is chain driven, that kit looks like it would make it hard to change or adjust the chain. I guess you would only need to break the chain at the master link.
Have you seen that new "Spider" bike? Two wheels in front and one in back. I think I could get used to having one of those.

It feels better when you are older. I like to go faster than when I was younger. We used to ride regular four wheelers. After my wife rolled hers over backwards on a steep hill at Mena. We decided if we are going to continue doing this, we need one with a roll cage. Thats what we have now. My wife sits beside me now saying slow down, slow down. I don't want to slow down. I figure nature will slow me down someday. I don't want to slow down voluntarily. We only get to live this life one time. We better make the most of it.

I play guitar, bass, piano, keyboards harmonica and sing. I have a music and video studio in my home. I make movies of out doors and travel, and events as well as animated and composite as in special effects. I use a number of pro applications and just love Photoshop Extended and After Effects. I have done woodworking; I will post some furniture latter. I am in the middle of building some out buildings and remolding my home, carpentry and construction take up a bit of my time. I design and build electronics as I went to school for electronics engineering. We love to read and watch movies, travel and take photos.
My wife and I love to snow ski and go every week at least one or more times, I have been ski patrol, a ski instructor and racer. I work nights so if the powder falls I can go skiing; it gives me time for my garden as well. We have a tournament water ski boat and I have done competition water skiing around a ski course. We love being out on the water and sopping on the islands in the Colombia River. We used to make fireworks and shoot them at fireworks competitions as members of some fire works clubs and the guild. Some times we shot shows with factory made fire works. The insurance and laws got a bit hard to deal with so we had to give it up.
This is just a few of the things I like to do when I am not gardening.

I don't know if you have seen the commercial on television where the two old guys are comparing surgeries they have had over the years. One old guy says to the other "I had brain surgery.......through the nostril" The other old guy simply says "you win".

I have seen snow skiing on television, does that count? Looks very scary. And very cold.
I have actually seen folks water ski... notice I have seen... ha ha
I love to swim, but have never tried to ski, and when it snows... I stay in the house, next to the nice warm fire!
I applaud the physical fitness required for skiing whether snow or water.
But, I turn on my aerobics tape and just dance to fitness, when it is cold outside... wimp that I am.
I would however love to see some videos of music, fireworks, art and skiing, if you have some. I will remain a spectator though... tee hee

I agree! I was just kidding. You are accomplished in a wide variety of fields. I am also musically inclined. I whistle and hum a wide variety of tunes. I also snow ski, but it is hard to find challenging slopes in Texas. I do some wood working when I repair whatever the wife tells me to fix. I have a very good collection of sandpaper. I simply think it is important to enjoy yourself in all endeavors. When I'm not gardening, I'm thinking about the garden, planning the garden, thinking about cooking, canning, freezing what's in the garden and what I should have done, will do, won't do again in the garden.
