Native Australian hedges?

I'm looking for a nice native Australia hedge to plant along my West facing metal fence.

It needs to suit Perth WA conditions (WA hills as opposed to WA costal) and be drought tolerant.

The hedge will be in full sunlight. It cannot grow more than 1.6m high else it will block my lovely views. I would like something that flowers to attract native wildlife to the backyard.

Any suggestions? :)

Now you are really challenging us!

There are a few other Aussies around this forum. Maybe one of them will come around with some suggestions for you.

But I think you really need to be talking to knowledgeable local people...

Here's the website for the Australian Native Plant Society

and here's an Australian Native Plant Nursery

Here's another native plant nursery, that is apparently located in Perth

sounds like their interests maybe a little different than yours, but they would be very knowledgeable people to talk to.

Find someone where you are to talk to! :)

Here's what a quick search of the native plant siteturned up... seems Eucalyptus might be a good choice...
The most promising species were: E. cinerea; perinniana; polyanthemos; pulverulenta .
One of those HAS to be from around your neck of the woods... if you are coppicing you can keep any height you want...

Glad they are changing the name of the group though; ANSPA has a much nicer ring than ASGAP (make me think of plumbers cleavage, right?)
