Slugs on Hostas

Does anyone know a way I can get the slugs to leave my hostas alone?
I read about beer and copper, but those things are a pain and don't really work.

Hello again :D

The copper only really works if your hostas are in pots and you completely surround the pot with a copper strip. The beer only encourages more to the area so that is no good. They have done studies using eggshells, grit, glass etc. None of them made any difference.
Your best bet is to rely on nature again. You want to encourage hedgehogs, toads, frogs and thrushes into your garden. You can also try coffee. Any coffee grounds you have left over sprinkle around your hostas.
The only other method is mematodes but these have to be bought every year as they won't survive the winter so can work out as an expensive way of saving a few plants.

Thanks again for the info.
I will put coffee grinds tomorrow.
I wonder if the slugs will eat on the hostas if I fertilize them real good and give them strength (?)
I have some good organic stuff coming soon - so I'll do that too.
