I don't care whether they grow this year, but I don't want them to go to waste... or am I too late? I also have some red day lily bulbs that I'm wondering the same thing.
Oh, and I'm scared to plant them directly into the ground. Is it okay if I let them sprout in a peat pot with some good potting soil first -- or is that idiotic?
I should have conquered my fear of planting things before buying any bulbs!!
You can go ahead and plant them, both the hostas and the daylilies.
I suppose you could sprout them in a pot, if you prefer to, but I would just plant them in the ground. Find a well-drained spot with early morning sun or dappled shade for the hosta, and a well-drained spot with full sun for the daylilies. They are both tough plants, and should do fine for you.
Thank you!! I really appreciate the quick reply and the encouragement! Actually reading your reply gave me irrational feelings of glee... yes, I'm a nerdy new gardener!! Thank you again!
