New Apple tree delivered : looks very neglected

Hi All

Just bought a Spartan apple tree from a nursery, it was delivered. The tree looks like in abit of a state in my view, almost every leaf has holes in, been eaten, some edges of leafs are dark brown, some leafs have red dots in. Looks like its been neglected and I am not best pleased considering it was cheap either.

What you think from pixs guys?

Thanks

Not exactly a good advert for the nursery concerned Husk.
Spartan trees need to be spotless when you buy them as the variety is notorious for canker in their early days.

Just plant it in good loam soil if possible Husk. Water well for a few weeks ,until fully settled.
Keep a very close eye for any signs of lesions on the wood or die back.
it should recover ok ..just take care of it.

Can I take the poorly leafs off it and also prune it slightly now?

I’d leave well alone at the moment Husk it needs all the leaf it can get.
Don’t prune until the winter ....we can have a look then at how it’s done.

Hi Husk,
looks like you have much more space for trees than I do in my wee patch in London .
If you are looking for good fruit trees in the UK ,I am happy with the ones I got from Ashridge nurseries .
I am sure if you google that name you will find them.
