Strange roots (?) at the bottom of my apple trees...

Hi all

I noticed these root like things at the bottom of my apple trees a couple of days ago. I say roots, but I'm not really sure what they are to be honest. Sorry if the answer is an obvious one, it's all new to me! :)

If anyone can tell me what it is and whether I need to do anything, I'd much appreciate it.

Many thanks

Max

Disclaimer: I've never grown an apple tree, but I would throw some soil on top of those roots.

Just roots John.
Just check that they are from below the graft union. It looks like the union is that bump just above these roots.
You can covor with soil...but don't put the soil in high enough to touch that union.
There are some soil born pathogens that can enter the tree at that point...collar rot..etc.
