Fruit tree identification -- is it an apple tree?

Hello,
We recently moved into a new home with a wonderful fruit tree in the back, but no one is positive on what it is. We're fairly sure it is an apple tree, but want to be sure before we try any. Can anyone recommend a good location to ID it? Thanks

What size is that Apple DAndrew?
Can you take a picture of one with your hand beside it to show us.
That looks like a fairly old tree, so it could interesting to find what it is.
It has the looks of a culinary variety....but we shall see.
Also....where do you live?

We live in western Nebraska, USA. We're fairly sure they are apples, not ready for harvesting yet from what we can guess

Yup apples for sure. The leaves had me fooled a bit though. It's not ripe yet. Wait until the seeds are brown and the skin is a bit bumpy until you harvest.

Bit too early to be sure ....but those feint yellow lentacil spots that are starting to appear on the apples surface are similar to Granny Smiths.
Be interesting to see as the season progresses...whether it gets sweet and is a dessert apple or stays sour and is culinary.

NB. Next time you cut the apple in half to show its core profile ...cut it other way....like round the equator. This shows a better core for identing.
