New Red Navel Orange Tree

I was given a Red Navel Orange Tree over the holidays. It's about 2' tall, and has 6 branches. It is currently in a container. I live in North Florida. Zone 8b. I think typically they do better farther south. Should I wait until spring to plant it? If so, how do I take care of it until spring. Should I take it out into the sun every day and just bring it in on the freezing nights or what? After spring arrives, will it do best in full sun? Thanks in advance.
