I plan next spring on trying to grow grapes
Any suggestion on types that are cold hardy for Zone 4/3 and if possible are good for eating the fruit and making wine from them?
Appreciated

I really have no idea, but they do list grapes at St Lawrence Nurseries:
https://www.sln.potsdam.ny.us/
It may serve as reference at least since I don't know if they ship over the border.
Another "far north" source and ref I like is Fedco in Maine.

Heh. For some reason I had my Fedco trees, shrubs, fruits catalog out, so I glanced at the grapes page. One said zone 3 and most of them contain descriptions of dessert/table quality and suitability for what kind of wine.
Their target customer base is extreme northern gardeners in their area, so not many of their stock are suited for my garden, and I have to adjust for climate differences, but I love their informative website and printed catalogs.

Cold hardy vines need to be hybrids between French (vinifera) and American.
Unfortunately, American genetics do not allow wines to age well.
At the top I list the most disease resistant ones.
At the bottom I list 2 that will require more spraying.
Frontenac and Marquette are the best for red wine
Best varieties for wine:
Marquette (Vitis vinifera X Vitis riparia X Vitis labrusca) - zone 3
deep red hybrid young wine grape, acidic
Distant relation to Pinot Noir.
Louise Swenson (Vitis vinifera X Vitis riparia X Vitis labrusca) - zone 4
white young wine grape, muscat parentage
Skujinsh (Vitis vinifera X Vitis amurensis X Vitis riparia
X Vitis labrusca) - zone 4
white young wine grape, muscat parentage
Oberlin Noir (Vitis riparia X Vitis vinifera) - zone 5
mix into wines for color only
Jams, jelly, table:
Beta (Vitis labrusca X Vitis riparia X Vitis vinifera) - zone 4
acidic, Extremely rich in resveratrol.
Trollhaugen (Vitis labrusca X Vitis riparia) - zone 4
mild concord flavor.
Bluebell (Vitis labrusca X Vitis vinifera) - zone 4
blue concord type, moderate flavor.
(Need more spraying:
Frontenac for wine zone 3,
King of the North - table, jam, jelly zone 4
)
