Plans for making pollinator's house in workshop

Something I saw today on PBS was a house for bees and butterflies, on Woodsmith Shop, Season 18, episode 5. This looked interesting, and I thought that anyone else that likes woodworking and gardening might find it interesting. I made that bee house a few years ago, with the holes, but I had never seen something like this, with vertical slots, for butterflies. Here's a link - the only way to see it is if you are signed in, down at the bottom, and the last two seasons are free (at least last time I downloaded any).

We used to make bee houses for carpenter bees. We had 1/2 bamboo in the garden and we bundled them and zip tied the bundle together and hung it in the tree. One of the volunteers made a leaf cutter bee hive with a block of wood drilled with 1/4 inch holes ( both are bee condos).

There was a large habitat in the apiary that was constructed out of wood, stones and bamboo. It was taken down because wild bees nested in it and the garden now does not want any hives around. We had to rehome our bees 4 years ago.

A bucket works too. If you don't have bamboo. we use jumbo straws and pvc pipe. You just basically stuff it into the can or bucket on its' side. We have a butterfly garden so we don't really have to home them.
