Thanks! I like taking garden pictures. This is the first time I've succeeded with a tomato plant even a little bit, so I am out there taking pictures at least a couple of times a week. LOL! I only have one tomato plant, so it's kinda like my baby.

I just ate my first one... OMG, so good!

mine still need a few days .... I only have one planted, but there's loads of fruit and it's still flowering (close to 6 feet tall now)

another good one tht is bearing a lot of fruit is black cherry

I'm hoping to have a little more room next year so that I can experiment with a few different types and see where my tastes lead me. I don't remember for sure if mine is still flowering or not, but I think it is. Either way, it is positively covered in green tomatoes. I'm glad I have people to share with. I'm the only one in this house who will eat tomatoes. XP

I hope I end up swimming in them. Hubby's coworker had her tomato plant--tomatoes just starting to get some color--and bam, eaten down to the ground by deer. She is so bummed. I hope I get enough to pass some on to her.

Had my first proper taste of sungold yesterday ....

picked a few ripe ones and made a small salad (sungold tomatoes cut in half with some fresh basil, a bit of fresh ground black pepper, a touch of salt, a bit of crumbed Greek feta cheese (the good one: Roussas barrel aged feta cheese).... a few large green olives, a bit of crushed dried greek oregano and a good drizzling of extra virgin olive oil

there's still loads of green tomatoes whih are ripening fast now, and it's still making flowers

Next year, I will not plant gardeners delight or moneymaker, but rather plant additional sun gold tomatoes (I have 4 gardeners delight and 4 moneymaker and only 1 sungold)

They are super yummy. Holy smokes, Dim, that salad sounds freaking amazing. I could totally go for that right now.

Sun Gold an all time favorite of mine....to bad it is a hybrid but oh well it is to good not to grow...I love it.

I have heard some people say that Sun Golds have thick skin -- is that true? (reason I haven't tried them)

Really have trouble with thick skinned tomatoes and cherries are too small to peel individually....

Yes, I'd say they have a thick skin, but I like the texture of it. It's a bit like a plum skin, so kinda chewy, but again, I enjoy it that way. I agree, though--too small to peel individually, unless you use the blanching method--which of course only works if you want to eat them cooked.

Sun Gold has a very thin skin does not travel well not a good tomato for farmers market one of my favorite tomatoes to eat lol probably never get in the house with many of them. Sun Gold II some one grew it out it has a thick skin and really not near as good eating as the original.

I grow sungol too. It might be the light, mine are more yellow or yellow orange. They are very sweet and have come in at the top of a lot of taste tests. I did not find the skin that hard. I have harder skinned tomatoes but I did find that mine at least are more tart when they are not fully ripe and mine always cracked when they were ripe. Other people have said though that they did not have any cracking.

Lets not hate on the hyrbrid too much. I have a ton of hybrids in my garden. Of course all of them are from people like me and you that crossbreed tomatoes in their backyards and farms. They are incredible, still working out the stability on most of them and even at this stage they are great. So they are not F1's like a true hybrid but they are still more hybrid that Open Pollinated or Heirlooms. But F1's are boring a lot of the time the magic happens at F2. Soon they will be heirlooms though because they rock. I could go on but this reminds of a thread elsewhere that asked the question "Hybrid Vs. Heirloom that I promised to reply in.

Gotta move my sprinkler now, a gardeners work is never done!!

Gotta a few cross that I am growing out myself and I am not hating on hybrids just wishing I did not have to buy the seed for this yummy tomato..

My sun gold is just teasing me. There are a few fruit but mostly it has a head of flowers. It is also pretty old, so maybe I need a new one.

I had a petsitter at my house who " hates tomatoes" but will eat them on a sandwich. I told her to just try it, she argued, screwed up her face and bit into a sungold F1. You should have seen the expression on her face change. She ate a second and a third right there in the garden because she couldn't believe a tomato could taste so good. She told me she was picking them and aving tem with her breakfast every day while we eere gone, and that I turned her into a tomato lover.
That's the power of Sungold!
I find the skin to be normal, not thick.
