Patriotic Flower Garden for Neighbor's Husband Coming Home

My neighbor's husband is due to come home from war in June and she wants to plant a red, white and blue flower garden with her 2 young children for him in their garden around the American flag. We live in zone 6 and I wanted to help her out with the flower choices, any suggestions would help me out a lot. Thank you, Cathay

Petunias? I've seen elaborate flags created from red, white, and dark blue petunias. I think I've even seen pansies used before. I'm not all that creative, I can only go by what I've seen in magazines and such but I'm pretty darn sure those were the flowers that were used. Not that you asked but I saw a really great dessert made from cherry jello, blueberries, and whipped cream that was very patriotic. I bought the mold and me and my kids made it. Didn't turn out as nice as the photo but it sure did taste good.

I was going to suggest the same; red, white and blue petunias would be great to use, easy to find and not too expensive.

So glad to hear about one of our guys coming home!
