Canna Zone 7-11 in Texas can survive in New Jersey too

Saving those Canna Roots can be a little difficult in New Jersey. However, once the weather improved they do quite well. I was able to store last years Canna Roots (in containers) in my greenhouse. And when they sprouted and were about 24 inches tall and the ground was warmer I planted them. My favorites ...

The Russian Red with dark color leaves was quite dramatic.

One of the best displays I ever saw was this one. The roots remained
in the ground all winter, next to the building .. and survived. No Kidding.

any one interested in cannas, especially the more "tropical" varieties might be interested in a big canna article in current Garden Ideas magazine (spring 08). Really some wild looking foliage.
