5/12/2016 - A few days ago, my wife was presented a small sunflower that didn't come in a pot. It was the flower on top of an about 15" stalk. We put it in water right away.
Is there a way to save this flower so that we can eventually plant it in a large pot?
We'd appreciate any advice!

I've never heard of sunflower being able to root from the stem. But it is relatively easy to grow from seeds.
If you want to grow in a pot, you probably want to try some of the dwarf varieties intended for pot culture.

Renee's is another one that has some interesting selections I believe.
To "save" the flower, I've heard of burying in silica sand to make dried flower, but I have never tried it myself.
