Planting Fall Bulbs in Zone 8

I live in Zone 8, Do I need to put Tulips, Daffodils and Hyacinths in the fridge for 6-8 weeks? We get some freezing, most nights are 40' or below come January. Currently we are having unseasonably warm weather (70' day / 60' night) but it will drop to the 30's in a few days. I just got 100 bulbs and have no idea if I should plant or fridge them!! :?:
Thanks for any advice

Hi Mississippi Flowering,

Welcome to the Helpful Gardener. I would say to plant them in the ground. You could keep them in the refrigerator, but the chill period is more like 3 months, rather then 6 to 8 weeks. If you do keep them in the refrigerator you will need to be careful not to have any apples or pears there too, as these fruits will off-gas and kill your bulbs.

I'd say to add lots of compost to the planting bed, mix it in and plant away. Then mulch about 2" to 3" thick. As long as the ground isn't frozen the bulbs will start to grow roots as the soil is still warm, which is what they need to do.
