pickling paperwhites

One of my paperwhites is 12 inches or taller, is it too late to try the alcohol trick? I thought paperwhites are supposed to be moist and I read that the drier the better. My hubby mixed up some of the solution, should I just put some of it in the bowl so it can soak it up, or is it too late? Sorry so many questions, next year I will know what to do and won't bother with so many questions. You have been very helpful and I thank you very much Master Gardener.
