What dirt to use

I just got a 8' X 5' X 9" wooden garden encloser. I grow mainly flowers & plants.

What dirt should I use for this?

Just good topsoil mainly. If you don't have anywhere in your yard you can dig from, you can have a cubic yard of topsoil trucked in and delivered way cheaper than you can buy bags. Then enrich it with some peat moss and compost, which you can buy in bags. Just a few bags of each and maybe one bag of perlite or vermiculite mixed in with your topsoil and you will have a great mix!

Flowers and plants covers a lot of ground... what would we put in a raised bed that would not be a plant? Even trees are plants.

Ya good top soil mixed with like composted manure that you can buy at K-Mart for $2.49 a bag. I just got a few bags and I like it!
