Gardening at high altitude!

Hi everyone/my name is Annette,
I've just moved to Northern Spain, high up in the mountains.I've got a South facing garden here with beautiful soil. Can anyone suggest plants that will tolerate cold nights and hot days-since we have great extremes of temperature during a 24 hour period.
I have success transplanting some local natural plants but I'd like to expand my garden to make it as beautiful and varied as I can.
My new garden is the joy of my life but I like my plants to be happy and not to force them to try and live where they're are not happy!
Since I intend to be here for the rest of my life as I'm retired now,I'malso looking to plant a few special trees/my plot is about a third of an acre.
Best wishes to all -Annette
