I planted several flower plants this year, Cosmos being one of them (don't know which variety -- but they all had orange flowers). They've all pretty much died, but I got these little plants coming up all over the place and I swear they look like little cosmos plants. I'll try and upload a pic later. The only reason I'm posting this is because I can't believe how many of these things are coming up -- they're all over the place

Yes, some flowers can seed profusely. the first year I planted cosmos and several other annuals quite a while ago, the next year they came up 6-8 times as thick as the first planting, so it can happen. It is simply a matter of how many viable seeds fall to the ground during the growing season. That is one of the reasons I now rigorously dead head flowers during the growing season, not just to extend the bloom time.
