Growing my own wedding flowers in IA

To add a personal touch to my upcoming wedding, my mom, aunt, and I are growing the flowers. I'm going for a very colorful wildflower look. We'll need enough flowers for the bouquets and to fill small-ish 6" vases for the tables.

The wedding is in northern Iowa (zone 4b) in August. I figure if all else fails, we can pick Queen Anne's Lace out of the ditch. :) What are your favorite colorful flowers for cutting? I'd love to hear your suggestions!

Congratulations! :)

Although not exotic or unique at all, I'm fond of carnations. They last for a long time after being cut. There are many colors available, and they're easily dyed with food coloring, if you want them to match something specific. My very favorites are the clove-scented ones. I try to include some in my garden every year. :)

Cosmos, daisy's, zinnias, Queen Anne's lace, sunflowers, black-eyed susans, delphinium - thank you for the suggestions! The flowers were beautiful, and thought I'd give you a peek now that I've finally got the photos.

The wedding flowers were lovely - perfect colorful and happy accent for your big day!

I married 12 years ago, and planted pink geraniums and deep blue lobelia along the driveway and front sidewalk of my house. I still have a fondness for that combination!
