Nasturtiums....The do's and don'ts

Hey all!
I'm having great difficulty getting nasturtiums to grow for me. I've tried them in all areas of my garden, different growing conditions, and 4-5 different varieties...they all poop-out on me....I'm starting to get discouraged.

Any insight, suggestions, or hints? Tell me something!

Full sun; well-drained soil; water well about once a week, more often if the weather is hot; don't fertilize them at all, or you'll get lovely big leaves instead of flowers.

Plant the seeds directly in the ground early in the spring, about the same time you would plant peas. They can be started in pots and transplanted into the garden, but they don't take well to it.

They will grow in rich soil, but a lean soil will give you a much better display of flowers. I would avoid amending the soil with compost and such.

They really do need lots of sun. I tried them in partial shade one year, and they barely grew.

Watch them for aphids, especially on the undersides of the leaves. Those little critters really think nasturtiums are yummy!

HTH! :)
