I guess I'm trying to find out how to keep my merigold seeds until next year. It sure would be nice to save some money and use the seeds. Can anyone give me some advice. We live in Illinois if that should make a difference.

Hi Ilbatgirl,
Here's a couple of sites that tell you what you need to know about harvesting marigold seeds, what they look like and how to sow.

Sorry for the other post telling you to start a new question. I didn't see this one!

Seed saving is starting to catch back on; I was in the garden of an inveterate saver a few weeks back and was only aware of three cultivars of the over three hundred tomatoes he was growing! Select your favorite flower colors and see if you can select a new color strain over three or four years. Then you can name your own selection! (Every real gardener's secret dream is to have a plant named after them, right?) 8)

Gosh Scott, I must be one of the crazy gardeners that would name plants after my kids! Goes to show where my mind is at.

Newt, it's more like that's where my mind is at. I notice that lots of the growers out there name their releases after their kids; I'm just A) too selfish to have kids and B) if I did, I'd probably do like you... :)
