Peonies

How to make your Peonies flower?

Ha! Contrary to what I preach about building up the soil and feeding the plants all the time; with peonies you want to starve the plants. Have them is really porous soil with bark mulch to open up the soil and don't ferilize the plants.

Otherwise if you feed your plant and the soil, you will get lots of nice green leaves but no flowers.

Me being a complete stranger to peonies, I didn;t know that.
Now I know why my neighbor's very much starved peonies are blooming just fine (a lot of other things in her yard do not do so well).

Peonies will also not bloom if their bud eyes are more than an inch or two below the soil level. It is a common error to plant them too deep, and then guess what? No blooms!!
