Cutting pine boughs

I am wanting to cut some pine boughs from my yard to use inside to decorate....how do I keep the sap from dripping all over my table if I just want to lay them down--not in put them in an arrangement in water?? What can I do to prevent a sticky mess?

Interesting question. I think before you brought them in, I would crush the ends with a hammer a little bit. Then you could dip them in something to seal them, elmer's glue maybe or melted candle wax occur to me off hand, but I can't say I've tried it.
