Clematis Plants

I'm upset, my two beautiful clematis on my front fence are spreading on the fence nicely, buds are all over, but when they open they are shriveled at the ends, some of the leaves as well. May I add, I have other clematis that are doing beautifully. however, their on the side fence.

Any ideas why....they've been in my garden for years, this happened last year too. I had hoped after cutting them down this spring it wouldn't happen again. Not sure if I'm over watering, not enough water...????

Thanks for any suggestions!

Just a thought. Are you watering with a sprinkler or a can in sunlight? If the leaves and buds are wet with strong sunlight on them they would burn and perhaps this does not happen on the others as the sun hits at a different time?

Do you feed them? Need acid couple times a year?
