I need something tall and wispy

I have a fence (about 15 feet) along the back of my garden, and it faces north so it doesn't really get sun until well into the summer. I love the way tall verbena sort of mingles above the garden, so I'm hoping to find something somilar (in fact, isn't there a white verson of verbena bonariensis???) to plant along the fence. Any suggestions for something tall that will disguise the ugly (wood) fence that doesn't need full sun??

Well. I know you mentioned verbena, but what about Crape Myrtles? Or Hibiscus Syrensis (sp?) - they can get that tall easily, and will cover the top of the fence well. You can underplant them with something like wild verbena. Both tolerate some shade, in my experience.

I've decided to plant a couple black-eye susan vines (Thunbergia alata) to cover the ugly fence. I don't want long, thorny canes of a climbing rose, and I think the vine would be easier to handle as long as I don't let it creep through the neighbor's fence. My only concern is that the fence faces north, so it won't actually get "full sun" for awhile.

Has anyone planted this? What has been your experience with it? I know it gives lots of color, and they look beautiful, but are there any suggestions or precautions???
