Re: Flower color of Hyacinth Bean Vine

I want to know too! 8)

I don't have enough experience with hyacinth beans.

Let's see, I know for sure Purple Podded Pole Beans with purple flowers have tan colored seeds.
And I'm pretty sure Marvel of Venice yellow flat podded pole beans with white seeds have white flowers.

But Yellow Pencil Pod round yellow podded bush beans has black seeds and I really think the flowers were white?
And Jade Green round podded bush beans has frosty jade colored beans and white flowers I think.

I really hope someone knows the answer!

My purple hyacinth bean vine seeds are always black and white. Have never planted or seen the white. However, I wanted to comment that I planted my moon vine seeds this morning and I KNOW the flowers will be white. My saved seeds were every color from black to brown to gold to tan to white. Still and all, the flowers will be white "at the end of the day". So ....... does seed pod color reflect flower color? Probably not.

As others have said, the seed color probably doesn’t indicate the flower color, but I don't know. I must say however that I LOVE Hyacinth bean vines. I’ve grown them for years, and wish you luck in growing a white one.

Hyacinth bean flowers are variable from white to purple to almost blue. The bean has been widely hybridized, to get white ones, you may need to do some back crossing, planting and crossing only white to white, to restrict the gene pool.
