Is my dahlia going to die?

I'm not sure if it's getting too much water or not enough. We have been having some rainy days here and there and then really hot and dry days.

It looks terrible. But given that it would be going dormant soon anyway, you could just dig it up, cut all the foliage off and store the root for the winter (which is what you would be doing later).
