Asica's garden 2016

I have build keyhole garden.

This one has eggplant, tomato, basil, and bellpepper.

This one is more mix. We have cucumbers, beans, lettuce, and aragula. Plus unknown type of squash.

Wow, they are beautiful!

So a keyhole garden has compost pile in the center? I think I can see in the top picture a wire basket which is probably where the compost goes?

Everything is looking very healthy! In the background of the bottom picture there are tomato plants with very well developed tomatoes on them. The benefits of a zone 10 garden!

Gardening in LA, water conservation is an issue. Your deep gardens, done with mortared brick, seem like they would be great for conserving moisture. Keyhole gardens were developed for that purpose in hot climates in Africa. I am building a big circle garden out of interlocking concrete blocks. They are not mortared, so water seeps out between them. But since where I am we get 50" of rain a year, that isn't so much an issue for me! :)

Here is my onion next to Olla pot. The water is taken by root under the soil. There is also an apple tree that gets water too.
