Pulling out baby tomato plants in new lettuce patch!

I hate to pull out new tomato plants but there are 100,s growing in my new fall lettuce bed. I made the bed where I pulled the dead tomatoes that the blight got but the seeds that fell on the ground have sprouted by the 100's and are blocking the growth of the lettuce. a frost will kill the tomatoes and not the lettuce but by that time they will be a problem for the lettuce so away they go! I did throw some Epsom salts on the bed to keep the snails from eating the new leaves! The bed looks good.

I pull baby volunteer tomato plants all the time. They appear where ever I put down my compost.

You made the right choice for sure.
It's the fall season -- Tomatoes are out! Lettuce are in!

...unless you live closer to the equator like states along the Gulf of Mexico, of course (I'm thinking of Southern Hemisphere regions too where they are in spring season now). I wonder where the approximate cut off in latitude would be?

It is amazing how well tomato plants can grow when they don't have time to produce fruit before frost
