Somebody gave me a rose, and now it’s growing?

So about a month ago, somebody gave me a rose, but now it’s growing leaves. I think it would be cool to cultivate it into a plant, but I am completely clueless and have no idea what I am doing. Please help. I have included pictures of what it looks like as of now.

I've seen a video recently that shows a rose placed inside a halved potato and planted, and it seemed to grow like that. That might be something cool to try! You stick the stem of the rose into the halved potato then plant that in soil covering the potato .

I thought maybe the potato would grow as well. but it didn't state that. let me know if that works though!
